Why do you need it?
If you are just unaware the need of getting UAE ID Card, you must know that it is required during all the legal requirements, medical insurance, quick and easy medical services, electronic portal systems at the airport, and so on. You will need this ID card to avail any governmental and non-governmental services like applying for an internet or phone connection, paying bills, paying fines and all the other kinds of payment, opening bank accounts and more.
How to get an Emirates ID?
- Applicants have to apply for the card either online or from printing offices approved by ICA (identity and citizen authority)
- ICA will send you an SMS notification with the post office details for taking photographs and fingerprints.
- Your application status can be checked online through 'id card status' or ICA will notify you through an SMS notification
- The Emirates ID card can be collected from the post office specified by ICA.
- After you receive it, review the attached instructions on how to activate and change the pin code when using the card reader.
Note: If you do not collect your card in 90 days, then it will be sent back to ICA for disposal, and you will have to apply for it again by paying the required fees and submit a request to replace the lost as well.
Validity of the Emirates ID card
- UAE nationals: 5-10 years
- Gulf co-operation council countries: 5 years
- Expatriates: it depends on the validity of the residence visa
